XM Restricted Countries 2026: How to Check Eligibility and Local Laws

Researched and updated: 14 October 2026. Independent XM educational guide; not the official XM website. Services and conditions differ by legal entity and region.

A broker website can load perfectly in your country while the account-opening service is not legally available to you. That distinction is easy to miss when a brand markets itself internationally. XM's international legal documents identify specific restricted groups and explain that the site's services are not directed into countries where local laws prohibit their use.

This guide provides a careful eligibility checklist for international readers. It discusses the difference between citizenship, residence, the XM company offering the account and local law. It is not a route around restrictions and does not provide personalized legal advice. The conditions may change, so the current registration terms and regulator information remain decisive.

Before you act

Confirm the legal entity and current terms provided to you. This independent guide does not promise approval, account protection or profitable trades. Forex and CFD trading involves a high risk of capital loss.

Website access is not account eligibility

Public educational pages are designed to be accessible to many visitors. Account onboarding, by contrast, is governed by legal entities, product permissions and customer requirements. Seeing a registration button, using a translation, or receiving a marketing promotion does not prove you have a right to open an account for a leveraged financial product.

The relevant question is which company will contract with you, whether it is permitted to offer the product in your location, and whether the broker accepts your customer category. If any of those conditions is unclear, seek written clarification through official channels before sharing identification documents or sending money.

What XM Global currently says about restrictions

XM Global Limited's international website states that it does not provide services to citizens of the United States, Canada, Israel or Iran, alongside certain other sanctioned jurisdictions. It also states that users are responsible for observing the laws of their own country. This is an entity-specific website statement as viewed in October 2026, not an exhaustive list for every XM company or every possible account.

Do not interpret an unlisted country as automatically approved. A customer may face additional restrictions based on residence, status, product type, sanctions or regulatory changes. Conversely, a policy stated by one XM entity should not be treated as a legal assessment of a different company's operations without checking its own documents.

Citizenship, residence and the legal account entity

Citizenship describes a person's nationality or nationalities. Residence usually concerns where they live and may involve more than a simple mailing address. Brokers can use both characteristics, along with other information, when applying their terms and legal obligations. An account form's 'country' field may not be enough to establish which rules apply.

The company named in the client agreement is equally important. An account held under XM Global Limited is not the same legal contract as an account held under a separate European XM-associated company. The firm, regulator, client categorization and disclosures need to be checked together.

A three-part eligibility check

CheckEvidence to look forWhat it cannot prove
Country and customer statusBroker's current restricted regions and onboarding eligibility statementLegal permission based solely on website access
Specific legal entityFull company name and signed client agreementThat a license held by another group company covers you
Local law and productRelevant regulator rules and product availability for your statusThat authorization for one product covers all CFDs or leverage levels

Completing this checklist may require checking more than one official source. Different countries use different classifications for derivatives, CFDs, retail leverage and marketing permissions. An independent guide cannot replace local legal advice where a case is uncertain.

Why an offshore entity is not automatically a workaround

A common mistake is to assume that an offshore legal company can accept any customer simply because it is based outside the customer's country. In reality, a broker still has its own geographic restrictions and other obligations, while the customer's home jurisdiction may impose separate rules. A foreign registration does not erase those restrictions.

Using false identity information or disguising location can violate account terms and may lead to compliance problems. Do not use another person's documents, an invented address or misleading information to obtain a service that is not offered to you. Choose only providers and products that are lawful and available for your actual circumstances.

Regulation and customer protection vary with location

XM Global publishes its Belize FSC details, while the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission separately maintains a public register for Trading Point of Financial Instruments Ltd. These records concern distinct companies. Whether one or another firm serves a customer is a contractual question, not a feature you can safely infer from the group brand.

Different entities and regions can have different leverage limits, product disclosures, complaint handling, negative-balance terms and client categorization. Read the terms in your own account setup and verify the correct company's regulatory status using the relevant authority's official register.

How to ask support the right questions

If an eligibility issue arises, explain your actual country of residence, citizenship and intended account type to the broker's verified support channel. Ask which legal company would provide the account, whether your location is accepted, and which instruments are permitted. Request a reference to the relevant term rather than accepting a vague marketing answer.

Do not send sensitive identity documents to an unverified email account or social-media profile. If documentation is required, confirm that you are using the broker's secure onboarding service. Keep a record of the terms and written response that influenced your decision.

What if XM is not available to you?

The correct response is not to bypass the restriction. You may compare other providers that are authorized and legally accessible in your jurisdiction or decide not to trade leveraged products. A useful comparison still requires checking the specific company, regulator, fees, execution rules and risk.

Forex and CFD trading carries substantial risk of loss, even with a properly authorized broker. Our broader XM Broker Review, Editorial Policy and Risk Disclosure explain the independent research approach and why suitability differs among traders.

Frequently asked questions

Is XM available everywhere outside the United States?

No. The published restriction list is not exhaustive, other sanctions or local rules can apply, and conditions vary by legal entity.

Does using a different language version of XM change my eligibility?

No. Website language is not legal authority. The real customer status, broker company and applicable rules determine eligibility.

Can I use a VPN or someone else's address to open an account?

Do not misrepresent residence or identity or bypass restrictions. Use only services legally available to your true circumstances.

Is a licence from one XM entity valid for every group company?

No. Verify the specific counterparty in your agreement and the license that belongs to that company.
